Chicago Halloween Happenings 2014

alice cooper - chicago lake condos - jean wardAre you past the pub crawls, costume parties, and trick-or-treaters? If you are hankering for something out of norm to occupy your upcoming Halloween weekend, look no further, as you can choose from one of these 5 non-traditional ideas.

Take in a scary-themed theater performance

such as the parody “A Nightmare on Backstreet” at The Public House Theatre, improvisational comedy “The Halloween Show”at iO Theater or the Burlesque Geek Girls in “Spooky Boobs” at Gorilla Tango Theatre. For a complete list of spooky shows this weekend, visit RedEye Chicago.

Watch a blindfolded skywalker 50-stories-up cross the Chicago River

Call up anyone you know with a southern-facing patio at Marina City and ask if you can watch Nik Wallenda’s blind-folded high-wire act from the balcony. Think fast as odds are the guest lists are filling up quickly since the building management has imposed numerous regulations regarding the Nov. 2 stunt, such as a maximum 10 people per patio.

Get out and vote…..EARLY

Avoid the lines of the Nov. 4th General Election and go now through Nov. 1st to any of the following locations, open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm, some with extended hours. If you are registered in the City of Chicago, you may use any of city facilities, regardless of where you live. For a complete list of locations and extended hours, click here:

such as “At Last: A Tribute to Etta James” on Halloween evening, October 31 at the Black Ensemble Theater or jam with Patti Smith on Saturday morning, November 1, at the Chicago Humanities Festival at 220 S. Michigan Ave. If Sunday is more your speed, then check out Ne-Yo at The House Of Blues on November 2 or Alice Cooper at the Horseshoe Casino Hammond.

Try new food flavors

such as Nigerian at the pop-up restaurant Lagos at Ampersand (419 W Superior St. at Kinmont). This weekend’s Saturday dinner is already sold out, but you can still reserve your seat for Sunday, November 2nd’s goat dinner.
