Chicago St. Patrick’s Day 2014 Events

Patrick’s Day.  Check out these events throughout the city:

Mariano’s South Loop Celebration activities include kids crafts, shamrock pops, and create your own leprechaun hats.  You can sample Irish Soda Bread, Green Soda, and more at 2pm today.

Fado Irish Pub at 100 W. Grand boasts the biggest annual Irish Celebration in Chicago.  This year listen to live music with Donnybrook from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Nappertandy from 8 p.m. until midnight. The Shannon Rovers Bagpipers will perform throughout the afternoon/evening for a minimal $10 cover.

Mrs. Murphy’s and Sons Irish Bistro at 3905 N. Lincoln Avenue celebrates Celebrate St. Paddy’s in style with fine Irish beers and stouts, corned beef and cabbage, dancers, pipers, and Irish whiskies until midnight.  (Celebrate St. Paddy’s with us!  Fine Irish beers and stouts, corned beef and cabbage, dancers, pipers, and Irish whiskies until midnight tonight.
Take in live Irish fiddle, whistle, and vocals at Hackney’s Printer’s Row with performers Kathleene Keane and Peter Brad,y in a low-key setting from 6:30 – 10pm with no cover.

Grab the family and go to the day-long St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at the Fifth Province Pub at the Irish American Heritage Center today at 4626 N. Knox Avenue.  The festival houses music, dance and face painting for children from noon till 10pm. Check out The Tooles, The Chancy Brothers, O’Hare School of Irish Dance, and more.  Tickets are $10 at the door. Children 12 and under are free.

As an alternative, forget the rowdy celebrations and lay up on your computer and create an Irish card or music video starring you and your friends at Jibjab.  Choose from the Breakdancing Leprachaun or Kiss My Blarney Stone video, just to name a few. 

While you’re at it, why don’t you make your own St. Patrick’s Day Cuisine.  Try Cabbage Soup and Cole Slaw, Shepherd’s Pie, or venture out with Slow Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage and Irish Soda Bread

If you’re out of options, you can always go with the old standby sweet treat on St. Patty’s Day, the Shamrock Shake, available this year for the first time at ALL McDonald’s locations.
