Don’t Waste Time

We’re in the heart of that sweet spot between winter and winter that affords us Chicagoans a few months of sunshine, where we try to cram in as many outdoor and daylight sensitive activities as possible before the snow and ice once again loom on the horizon.  So are you fully utilizing your days and nights of comfortable outdoor temperatures, or are you still hanging on to those time-wasters we all tend to bulk up on in the winter months that allow us to keep our sanity?  If you want more time in your day, try eliminating a few of these unnecessary tasks and give yourself a pat on the back for those extra hours you’ll be enjoying!Don't Waste Time - Chicago Lake Condos - Jean Ward

Forget the gym

Save travel time to and from the gym by practicing outdoor workouts in the warm months.  Depending on your commute time, your gym parking situation, and the amount of time it takes to stow/retrieve your personal items, you could save an average of 30 minutes a day.  As an added bonus, you can soak up some much-needed Vitamin D, which boosts your immune system.

Clean up you Inbox

Unsubscribe to any regularly scheduled emails from companies soliciting their products and deals.  If you spend the 30 seconds today to opt out of the emails, you can save hours over your lifetime that you would accumulated having spent seconds each day deleting or browsing through content simply for diversion.  Delete daily any emails you don’t need or have already addressed.  By keeping your mailbox from overflowing, you won’t have to waste time scrubbing your mailbox en-mass because you’ve exceeded your storage limit and won’t have to worry about not receiving new emails until your storage is cleared.

Don’t open daily discount emails  

Delete marketing emails without even opening them if you know there’s no content you need in them, such as daily discounts like Groupon, Living Social, Daily Gems, and stores and travel site sale emails.  When you need to buy something you simply go to the websites and search by deal or print out discounts/coupons.  

Put the device down

Close the Words with Friends, Disable the Candy Crush, and take the sound alerts off incoming texts and emails.  Do you have any idea how much time you blow each day screwing around on your phone/tablet/computer?  You could bike ride from one side of the city to the other and back in that hour you save each day.  If you’re a super time waster with social media, you may be blowing 2-3 hours a day.  You could have a day at the beach, a new garden planted or take a cruise and be back home already in that time period.

Turn off the TV

Bury the remote and hit it outside.  There are no new shows being broadcast in the summer to begin with and with our on-demand world you can replay anything on TV or Cable anytime you want.  Walk the river, eat outdoors, run the lakefront, visit the zoo, skate home from work….doing almost anything outdoor is better than being a summer couch potato.
